AFI DOCS is een filmfestival dat tot stand kwam door een unieke alliantie tussen het American Film Institute (AFI) en Discovery Channel om het publiek te demonstreren, te eren en uit te breiden voor onafhankelijke documentaires. AFI DOCS brengt de beste nieuwe documentaires naar het publiek in Washington, DC, met 84 films uit 28 landen. In 2013 werd het filmfestival hernoemd en uitgebreid met locaties in de National Mall en de wijk Penn Quarter in Washington DC en in het AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center in Silver Spring, Maryland.
